Supporting Our Communities: Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia Care in Primary Care

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding contributions of Kanisha Pandi, Senior First Contact Physiotherapist, whose dedication to patient care continues to inspire and uplift the North Coventry community.
Kanisha recently led a highly successful patient education event focused on chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia, bringing her clinical expertise beyond the clinic walls. Her collaborative leadership and compassionate communication were central to the event’s success, which welcomed patients and carers living with chronic pain.
Through a jargon-free, engaging presentation, Kanisha empowered attendees with practical strategies for self-management. One participant shared:
“The session was helpful. I learnt some exercises and earlier they used to tire me out. But the ones I was showed today were easier, seated, and I found them much more manageable. The pain education session was useful.”
The event was co-produced with the PCN’s Health and Wellbeing Coach, exemplifying the strength of a multidisciplinary approach in primary care. Kanisha’s work reflects the transformative potential of First Contact Physiotherapists in supporting patients holistically.
Why This Matters
- Chronic pain is a major public health challenge. Around 1 in 3 people in the UK live with chronic pain, and it significantly affects quality of life, physical function, and mental health.
- 28 million adults in the UK are estimated to live with chronic pain (Public Health England).
- Fibromyalgia, a complex condition causing widespread pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbance, affects 2–4% of the population, with women more commonly diagnosed.
- Chronic pain is one of the most common reasons for GP consultations, highlighting the need for specialist support in primary care.
